The list of places to go for New Year’s Eve would not be complete without the capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco. It is what draws many foreigners to Peru, especially being the gateway to the ancient citadel Machu Picchu. Make sure you check out the quaint attractions and nearby archeological sites of Sacsayhuaman and Korikancha before revving up for the evening fun. The rolling Andes and scenic landscapes characteristic of the Sacred Valley can be admired from within the city and will surely not disappoint.

Mancora

Mancora has a healthy mix of rambunctious nightlife and quiet solitude for those planning where to spend their New Year. Whether lodging in luxurious resorts or private bungalows fit for the family, always expect quick and easy access to the area’s gorgeous, white sand beaches. Without a doubt, if rolling in the New Year in Mancora, you will not be left high and dry.

Arequipa

The southern Peruvian city Arequipa is undoubtedly one of the best places to go for New Year’s Eve in the country. Nicknamed the White City, Arequipa offers visitors natural elegance framed by the iconic volcano Misti, which is ever present on the horizon. Your breath will be taken away upon the sight of the city’s colonial architecture coming to life at night, creating the ideal vibe for New Year’s festivities.

Iquitos

Iquitos is the largest city in the world inaccessible by land, lying in the heart of the Amazon. So naturally, it makes the list of places to go for New Year’s Eve. Walk along the boardwalk, boat through the floating village of Belen, or experience the market for some traditional jungle cuisine. No matter what you do, every corner is sure to present something new and exciting during this holiday. Be sure to slip into the Amazon rainforest for a few days as well for the full experience.

Tarapoto

For those who want a taste of the jungle without full immersion in Iquitos, Tarapoto is just the right answer. Join the locals for a lei-filled firework extravaganza and nonstop partying in the streets—both activities start early and continue on well into the following morning. Furthermore, the city of Tarapoto is acknowledged for its easy access to surrounding native communities and national reserves that house waterfalls, lagoons, nature trails, and a variety of other attractions.

Lima

New Year’s Eve in Lima is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Not only is the capital filled with fireworks, but also locals whose beliefs run just as deep as their blood. Don’t be surprised to see locals walking around the block with an empty suitcase in hopes to travel sometime during 2020, while others snack on grapes just as the clock strikes midnight for good luck. Not to mention that Lima is the gastronomic capital of South America. Come for good food and stay for good times.

Any of these destinations would be the perfect place to end 2019 with a bang.
