Cusco on National Holidays

Reading : 1 min June 28 2017

We welcome the month of July and with it the celebrations of the Independence Holidays of Peru.

This time of year, almost as important as Christmas, we commemorate the anniversary of our independence. This 2017 marks 196 years since General Don Jose de San Martin proclaimed our nation’s freedom to the Spanish monarchy.

To pay tribute to all of our patriots, the whole country hoists the flag of Peru in their houses and / or shops, as well as wear the cockade during the 31 days of the month of July.

The days of the actual celebrations are specifically the 28th and 29th, which are also national holidays and are the days in which military parades and government events are scheduled.

And this year we want to invite you to live a different patriotic experience, in Cusco, where there are a variety of parades, gastronomic and musical activities organized to commemorate our independence.

Military Parade and Parade

The school parades are held in the Plaza de Armas in Cusco with the participation of students from primary school and high school, as well as those who study higher education.

At the conclusion of the parades the first places are awarded with the corresponding pennants, the winners participate in the civic parade where the military police and military are involved.

We recommend you to end this patriotic experience visiting the ruins of Machu Picchu. It will undoubtedly be the best experience to enhance our national pride. For this we advise you to reserve your ticket to the Inca Citadel in advance as well as  your Inca Rail train tickets: http://incarail.com/

Do not think about it any more and spend a different weekend in Cusco, leaving our bicolor flag really high. Happy Independence Day!
